Love Thursday - A Big Sister's Love

>> Thursday, January 31, 2008

I look outside today and it is cold and windy and shake my head b/c yesterday we were able to play out on the back deck, with NO jackets! In yesterday's post I mentioned how Piper was such a little mama with Violet while she is learning all the ropes of being a mobile toddler. What I didn't say was what a lover she is with her baby sister too. This photo was shot after Violet fell and Piper ran over to "kiss it" which is happening SO much over here right now. To a 2 year old I guess that everything feels better after a kiss - heck, her 36 year old mama feels that way too though.

Now, I am going to go and check out some other blogs that are participating in Love Thursday, you should too!

A Party for Princesses

>> Tuesday, January 29, 2008

Piper has yet to see a movie with a real princess in it but somehow she LOVES princesses. I never thought that she would be such a little girlie girl but she is turning out to be just that. A friend of mine told me that our local Chick-fil-A was having a "Princess Party" last night and wanted to know if Piper and I would like to join her and her daughter. Of course we agreed and when I told Piper about it (yesterday probably 2 hours before leaving) she was very excited. We arrived 10 minutes early to find a packed house, I took the LAST parking spot that they had. Yikes! We got inside and it was seriously pink chaos! What did I expect with a restaurant full of young girls and toddlers dressed in their princess best? Anyway, we made it through the crowd to get her a wand and then back so that she could get her nails done and her little treat bag. Navigating through the crowd was a little tricky but we finally all ordered our food and after getting it realized that there were no open tables. Wait, there were empty tables but they had people's coats sitting at them. Why oh why when you see that a store is that packed and you see people (with 2 year olds) waiting for tables would you just use that table as a coat rack? We all went out to the car and had a picnic in the back of the wagon. Still fun fun fun for the kiddos and Piper is STILL talking about it today! Yeah Chick-fil-A for having fun family nights like that! Here is a picture of Piper after I got her ready to go - I can't believe how big she is getting!

Love Thursday - (Friday Edition)

>> Friday, January 25, 2008

Yesterday was a long day and I actually didn't even know about "Love Thursday" until later last night. I laughed b/c all day Thursday I felt so much love from my family and friends. My old friend Beth called in the morning and I had a nice conversation with her while Violet slept. Piper gave me so many unexpected hugs and kisses yesterday it was so sweet. The icing on my "love" day came however when my husband got home from work with a bouquet of flowers behind his back announcing "Happy Thursday" to me and the girls. Since he is working such long hours I wanted to wait until this morning to take a picture of the flowers (which I ALWAYS do b/c I am a dork that way) and after taking about 6 pictures came in to put them on the computer and submit to Shutter Sisters for my Love Thursday Post. To my surprise the picture that I thought would be the perfect one actually wasn't, the one that I am choosing as my submission shows my love for many things all in 1 shot!

The flowers show the love in my marriage, the cup is my love of good coffee, the basket holds a bundle of cloth napkins and that represents my love for Mother Earth, and finally you can see my Violet's booster in the background - my girls are the loves of my life! So there, I am so not in the same league as the ladies at Shutter Sisters but I try :)

U.P.(s) and Downs

>> Wednesday, January 23, 2008

We had a very special treat this evening, my brother was in town for work and stopped by the house to hang with our family. Since he lives in Upper MI we don't get to see him nearly enough. My sweet husband gave us a nice tour of the shop and then we headed back to the house for dinner and good conversation (at least I thought so). Roddy had a bunch of pictures on his Zoom so I got to see his beautiful family. Very nice evening! Pretty cool that baby Violet is really walking up a storm now so he got to see that. Good timing also brought him down our way for Piper's 1 st birthday party a few years ago. Now, to get Susie back down here (I know that you're reading!!).

For Christmas we got Piper a Waldorf doll that she affectionately named Tiki (you got me). Well, she wants absolutely nothing to do with Tiki unless that baby grabs her. Today Violet took Tiki for a ride in a stroller and was having so much fun, it was kind of a struggle for her to stay standing b/c it is just a cheapo little thing so she fell alot - but she got up smiling!

This didn't make Piper very happy though and she actually played with Tiki for about 5 minutes b/c it is "HER doll not the baby's!" That is a new record for amount of Tiki Time at our house - so sad.

Not that I am complaining (a whole lot) but with the weird weather we have been having here lately we have those crazy little ants again! They come in by the kitchen sink and not even when there is a bunch of dishes in there either - there is no rhyme or reason that I can think of for them besides their little bottoms were cold and our house is constantly a sauna. My husband JUST told me that I am not allowed to put dish detergant all over our tile backsplash b/c it is too hard to get off after it is dry and hard - bummer too b/c that kept them at bay for about 15 minutes last time. Tonight though I brought out the big guns - Windex - and killed a bunch of them. SO GROSS - I dislike ants in my kitchen! What I am not looking forward to though is tomorrow morning when their whole colony has moved in and set up camp - I drown them by spraying them down the drain - did I mention how much I dislike them...

Look Who's (almost) Walking!!

>> Saturday, January 19, 2008

Hurray Violet!!

Yep, she walked more today than she has ever done before! Now instead of her crawling up to Piper and trying to steal stuff she will be walking up to her and running away - ah the fun starts (and I thought we have had drama up until now).

Time for a few contests that I found

>> Thursday, January 17, 2008

After taking about a month off from really looking around at other's blogs I took some time tonight and found a couple of contests that I would really like to enter (and win!).

Parents With Style along with Lexie Barnes is having a contest to win one of their Dutchess Bags (pick me *wink*). I am such a bag freak and these prints are just beautiful! My favorite after checking out the site would have to be The Lady B in Pacifica - yummy!

Here is an awesome little giveaway for the kiddos. How cool would it be for your babe to cruise around in a retro pedal car? Well, the mamas over at 5 Minutes for Mom are giving away a very cool '65 Mustang Pedal Car. You want to get in on this contest then get over and sign up - no blog needed for this one! Good luck (have I said how good my girl's would look in a shiny red pedal car?).

The Blizzard of 2008

Yep, I believe that is what the news was calling it yesterday. Milk and bread were no where to be found at the local supermarkets. Kiddos were excited with the idea that there might not be any school today and they were not let down b/c it SNOWED last night! Both girls had rough nights, Violet b/c she is teething (yes again) and I am not sure why Piper was but she got up at 4 am for some reason. Her crying made Violet wake up (again) so Matt brought Piper in the living room while I got Violet back to sleep. Piper got to see snow for the first time, well not the first time but the first time that she knew what it was. NC (our area anyway) got like 2" of the white stuff last night - woo hoo!

Matt came home to have lunch with us and we headed out afterwards to build a snowman - a southern snowman doesn't look much like the ones that we created back home in WI but Piper had a ball doing it! Violet was warm and snug on my back in my BEAUTIFUL red Nino Didy. Good thing for pictures b/c with all the rain we are having I am afraid all evidence of snow will be gone by tomorrow.

Wordless Wednesday - The Bait

>> Wednesday, January 16, 2008

I tried baiting the baby with her favorite ride on toy so that she would walk to it but instead she reached herself as far as she could and grabbed it while holding onto a table. I don't care that she isn't walking a bunch yet but it is still fun to try and get her to try to do it you know?

Blah

>> Tuesday, January 15, 2008

That is how I have been feeling - winter blues I guess. I don't feel like doing much of anything, that includes blogging. Right now I guess that I don't have a whole bunch to say, ever have times like that?

Matt brought us home a playset tonight, it was on clearance at BJ's warehouse. I have no clue what the ground is like or if we could even get it set up right now, it would be nice though b/c our home is pretty far from a park and this winter has been really mellow weather wise so we would probably still use the heck out of it. Piper is going to be so excited, we haven't told her but wait until she sees it!

I don't think that I have mentioned our new Beco Carrier that I got right after Christmas. It is beautiful! Not only is the print SWEET but it is comfortable too! I can get V on my back in less than 15 seconds with this baby! Why did I resist SSC carriers for so long? My go to is still my gorgeous wraps but I have been reaching like crazy for this beauty - I even went out to to the car to get it when V was being fussy instead of using something that I had in the house, now that is love :)

After going back and forth in my head on what to do about preschool for the 2008-09 school year I think that we have decided to hold off sending Piper until she turns 4. We want Piper to socialize with other kids and learn but on the other hand I just want to have her be home with me too. I am going to go to 1 orientation and *maybe* see if I get lucky with their lottery but after discussing this with Matt I think that our minds are made up.

Our closet is a mess, no mess is putting it nicely. Our closet is totally trashed! When we created the playroom we also took away the kids bedroom and with doing that had to combine their things with ours in our closet. The girls don't really let me get to projects like that and it got so out of control that I shut the door and ignored it for like a month or so. Today I started to tackle it and set aside a bunch of good clothes that my kids probably never wore for consignment. I am vowing right here and now that even if an item is only $1 at a consignment store our kids don't need it (be strong Jessie). When the bedroom is complete I am tackling the play room which is ANOTHER nightmare! You would never know that there are only 2 little girls living in our home - wish me luck!

That is it for now I guess, I can't believe that I didn't even get out the camera last week but to snap a diaper shot (however fabulous the diaper is) so no Best Shot Monday but go check everyone else's BSM - I have added the new button in my sidebar.

Happy Monday!

Things that I love at the moment

>> Saturday, January 12, 2008

I haven't blogged in awhile b/c well, we have been really sick and now the baby is cutting all 4 of her molars - so fun! The only resolution that I might have made this year was to declutter my home but looking around I am not sure that will ever happen so I boycotted resolutions in 2008! It is hard to believe that the off season is almost over for Matt, it has been really nice having him home. We do have a few little projects to get to before he technically starts the year and hope to get them done this weekend. Just yesterday I took all the ornaments off our Christmas tree but the tree remains, I would keep it up all year if I could b/c I LOVE Christmas and something about the lights on a tree makes you feel good. Each morning before going off to work Matt would turn on the lights so the girls and I came out to a sparkly tree - I love that he does that.

The decision to get Piper a camera was Matt's and we found it on clearance at Target for $25. We got the Vtech Kidizoom Digital Camera b/c of the reviews that it received. Now, this is not a camera adults might like but our 2 year old LOVES it! The camera also has games and can take short movies (we haven't taught her either b/c she is happy snapping pictures right now). Anyway, it is pretty much unbreakable and one of the best gifts we could have got her - I love seeing what she takes pictures of!

Before Christmas I won a little contest and the day after Christmas received my prize, Straplettes. These are so pretty and useful for a new nursing mama! I put one on and just that little bit of glitter underneath what you are wearing makes you feel good. I got 3 and plan on giving away the other 2 to new moms so that they can feel how I do. Thanks Lisa, they are so well made and pretty - I was blessed to win this contest.

Lastly, I bought Violet a new diaper. I seldom ever buy new diapers but I saw this and had to have it b/c it is dip dyed in shades of purple - ah my lucky girl to get to wear this soft yummy work of art. Fussybutt has long been my favorite diaper (that I can't afford) and this is my first new one - I hate to know there will be poop in it!

Now to post this b/c it has been sitting on my computer and I have been working on it for literally 3 days!!! I am such a blogging slacker! Happy Weekend Everyone!

Through the eyes of a 2 year old

Ever wonder what they find interesting to look at? We are getting a good idea when we found a little kids digital camera on clearance we got one for Piper - she is having so much fun and I think that it is great how much she loves using it!
